To celebrate, we drove the van down to the coast, intending to get in some serious kayaking. But the weather had other plans and the tail end of a hurricane blew in. Minutes after this image of a lovely natural sculptured section of break wall was taken, even blacker clouds rolled across the sun.
The last total eclipse I witnessed wasn't this dark.
Alert readers may notice an absence of people on the beach.
This is probably because most people listen to the little internal voice that says, 'never take your kayak out in a hurricane.' Other people need a big shouty external voice that says, 'are you completely crazy? There's a hooley blowing, you can't tell land from sea, and you want to go for a pleasure trip on the Atlantic?!'
If you ever find yourself in the latter situation, here's some practical advice. Keep calm ...
... and keep possession of the van keys.
Oh, and if you haven't yet put your hand up for a review copy of the latest Crombie title, there's still time!
